Daivd Cameron has announced his aim to rid the UK of what he describes as a "health and safety monster," reports the Telegraph

Arguing that legal claims surrounding health and safety cost businesses billions of pounds each year, Cameron has said that he wishes to reform measures, capping legal fees for claims and removing some of the red tape.

However, despite the benefit to business owners, not everyone is delighted with Cameron's plans. The Guardian reports that the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health has condemned any changes to the law regarding health and safety. A spokesperson for the institution told the newspaper:

"The problem identified by the government's own reviews is not the law, but a rather exaggerated fear of being sued, fed by aggressive marketing."

Cameron announced that he is imploring the UK's Health and Safety Executive to bring forward his timetable to abolish up to half of the country's health and safety measures by the end of 2012.
