Square, the mobile payments provider founded by Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey, just launched a new iPad app called Square Register today.
With an iPad and a Square card reader, you can basically throw out your cash register. You don't have to have a separate card reader for credit cards and debit cards.

Card-readers and cash registers are crotchety old pieces of technology that haven't seen upgrades in decades. You use them so much every day that you might not even realize how important they are to business — and how much of a headache they are.
Square Register should completely destroy that headache.
It looks so ridiculously easy to use, a kid could set it up and use it for a pop-up business like a lemonade stand. You sign up for Square, link an account, add an item, a price for that item — and you're done.
You can start charging for those items with a credit or debit card within about 30 seconds of setting up the app.
It also works with Card Case, another Square app that lets customers link a credit card to their Square account.
Card Case uses GPS tracking to detect when a customer is near a store and lets store owners automatically charge them without having to swipe a credit card.
Think about how much time you could save if you didn't have to wait for a card swipe and the time it takes to process that credit card. This thing looks like it operates almost instantaneously.
And Square takes a flat 2.75% fee for each transaction processed, regardless of how big it is. Square users can access data about their transaction history through the Square website.
