The official Sears Twitter page has been busy Monday, responding to what the company says are inaccurate reports that the retailer is an advertiser on Rush Limbaugh's radio show.
Sears became embroiled in the backlash against Limbaugh after the Daily Kos blog on Sunday called for a boycott of the retailer for advertising on Limbaugh's show.
Several advertisers have pulled support from the conservative radio host's show after he called a Georgetown law student a "slut" and "prostitute" last week.
But Sears does not sponsor or advertise on Limbaugh's show, spokesman Tom Aiello said Monday. He explained that WABC, a New York radio station, last week mistakenly ran a Sears ad during a news break from the Limbaugh show.
Sears also has taken to Twitter to correct the record. On Monday afternoon, Chris Brathwaite, a spokesman for Sears Holdings Corp., tweeted: "Sears and Kmart did not intentionally advertise on the Rush Limbaugh show. We've taken actions to ensure our ads do not run on this show."
In a separate tweet, Brathwaite also said: "Sears Holdings does not purchase media based on political affiliations or views."
The retailer also has replied to dozens of people on Twitter who had commented on Sears advertising.
Aiello said Sears has taken steps to make sure stations are clear on when the retailer's ads can run.
